Faceless Void is the position 5 support in the 7.29 patch
The release of each new patch often leads to interesting ideas for using heroes. Lately, we've seen carry IO, support Luna, mid Shadow Demon, and it looks like we'll see support Faceless Void.
In the 7.27 patch, Faceless Void was the most popular carry hero in pro-Dota 2 with 1,278 maps played. With the release of the 7.28 patch, the hero was greatly nerfed and generally stopped being used in professional matches. But more recently, after the 7.29 patch, Faceless Void has been actively used by professional players as the position 5 support. This only applies to public games yet, but it may soon be in official matches. It was ??Kim "DuBu" Doo-young, the Undying player, who introduced this concept.
Hero changes in the 7.29 patch
The key ability that allows Faceless Void to become a support is Time Dilation. The ability now deals damage over time and slows the restoration of enemy cooldowns and enemy heroes themselves. So any hero that uses 4 spells and gets hit with Time Dilation will get 572 magic damage. At the same time, the hero still has a powerful ultimate ability, Chronosphere, with which it can turn any game over.
Why a support and not a carry Faceless Void? It's simple. The support will max out Time Dilation at level 7 and then pump the rest of the abilities, while for the carry, there are more necessary abilities at an early stage. By the time the carry gets maximum Time Dilation, the opposing team will already have BKBs.
At the moment, professional teams continue to play with more familiar heroes and strategies, but perhaps very soon, we will see Faceless Void as the position 5 support.
