DPC: Europe Regional League — Highlight Matches Week 1

We continue the rubric of central matches to analyze the most intriguing meetings of the coming week in the DPC league. This time, it was the turn of the European region. As in other regions, we have selected only the most exciting matches of the whole week and analyzed them.

Team Liquid vs. Vikin.gg | January 19 - 17:00 GMT | Upper Division

Despite the intense competition among the European region teams, Team Liquid was lucky to receive a direct invitation to the league's upper division. For most of 2020, the team had stable average results at all tournaments. Still, they found their own style by the fall and even became ESL One Germany 2020 champions. Since mid-December, the team hasn't had official matches, and it is unknown how they've analyzed the new patch.

Vikin.gg was less lucky, as they had to win a ticket to the upper division in the closed qualifiers. We can say that the pandemic restrictions were good for this team: they could train more due to the lack of LANs. Initially, they were considered representatives of the Tier-2 scene. But the team distinguished themselves by rapid progress. From the middle of 2020, they began to participate in all major European tournaments.

Alliance vs. Nigma | January 19 - 17:00 GMT | Upper Division

Alliance also had to fight for a ticket to the upper division in the closed qualifiers, which weren't difficult for them. In the previous year, Alliance had extremely unstable results: in some tournaments, the team was at the top, and in others, it could be eliminated after the group stage.

The previous year of Nigma can be divided into 2 phases. The first one lasted from the beginning of 2020 to the end of the summer, when the team played with its captain, Kuroky, and Nigma had good results. The second stage lasted from the end of summer to December began with his inactivity related to the surgery, and the team's coach, rmN, replaced the captain. During this period, the team's performance was much weaker, but now Kuroky is back, and Nigma had plenty of time to train.
